Concrete tips to keep your brain sharp – every day
Do you want a sharper brain and better mental energy in your everyday life? Here you will find concrete, simple and effective tips that activate your entire brain – and that can be done every single day.
1. Start the day with movement
Morning exercise gives your brain a kick-start. Even 10–15 minutes of brisk walking, light stretching, or dancing to music can increase blood flow and improve focus and mood.
2. Make a “brain list” for the day
Divide your day into small mental exercises that stimulate different parts of your brain:
Logic: Solve a sudoku, crossword, or number game
Language: Read an article or listen to a podcast
Senses: Smell herbs, taste something bitter, feel different textures
Creativity: Draw, write or try to make a new recipe
Memory: Learn a new word or name and use it throughout the day
3. Use your senses consciously
Active sensory stimulation strengthens the brain's connections:
Close your eyes while brushing your teeth – feel the texture and smell
Eat something new and describe the taste in your own words.
-
Walk barefoot outside and pay attention to the surface
4. Take meaningful mental breaks
Do something completely different for 5–10 minutes:
Listen to music and focus on the instruments
Look out the window and observe nature
Breathe deeply and focus on the sounds around you.
These breaks give the brain room to recover and process information.
5. Switch hands on everyday tasks
Using your opposite hand to brush your teeth, use the mouse, or open doors challenges your brain and strengthens connections you don't usually use.
6. Practice being present.
Do one thing at a time. When you eat, eat – without a phone or screen. This trains concentration and increases awareness of your own senses.
7. Eat for mental energy
Nourish the brain:
Fatty fish (DHA), eggs (choline), kale and berries (antioxidants), nuts (vitamin E)
-
Drink water – the brain is sensitive to even mild dehydration
8. End the day with reflection
Keep a journal or note down three things you have learned, experienced or been grateful for. It strengthens memory and emotional balance.
Your daily brain booster – example
| Point | Activity |
|---|---|
| Morning | 10 min movement + sensory training |
| Morning | Short brain teaser (quiz or word game) |
| Afternoon | Use the opposite hand on one task |
| Evening | Read, write and reflect |
Small actions – big impact. An active brain thrives best when it is used in new and varied ways. Make it a habit to challenge and support your brain – every day!
